3. Bibliographies and checklists providing access to the publications of the Serial Set were of uneven quality and coverage until the Congressional Information Service published the CIS U.S. Serial Set index, 1789–1969 and the CIS Index to Publications of the United States Congress, covering 1970 to present. Two forthcoming publications will also increase access to the Serial Set, specifically its cartographic resources. Claussen and Friis's Union Catalog and Subject Index of Maps Published by the U.S. Congress, 1789–1861 was announced by Historiconsultants Inc., Washington, D.C., as completed and scheduled for publication, and Donna Koepp, at the University of Kansas, is compiling an index to the maps of the entire span of the Serial Set to be published by Oryx Press.
