2. The International Conference on Children, Repression and the Law in Apartheid South Africa took place in Harare on 24–27 September, 1987. There was a wide range of attendance, from people working within South Africa to exiled leadership of the African National Congress and representatives of governments. The conference was opened by Mr Robert Mugabe, then Prime Minister (currently executive President) of Zimbabwe. The large attendance by high-ranking people of international repute underscored the extent of international concern about the issue.
