4. Dimeric rhenium(IV) and monomeric rhenium(I) and (V) complexes of orotic acid
5. Method of synthesis: To a solution of H2moa (50mg, 0.290mmol) in 10cm3 of ethanol was added trans-[ReCl3(MeCN)(PPh3)2] (125mg, 0.145mmol) in 10cm3 of ethanol. The orange mixture was heated under reflux for 24hours, with the colour changing to dark brown. The solution was allowed to cool to room temperature and filtered. No precipitate was obtained, and the filtrate was left to evaporate at room temperature. Dark green crystals were collected after a week. Yield: 84mg (44% based on Re); m.p. 198°C. Anal. Calcd for C46H34ClN4O7 P2Re2S2·2H2O: C, 41.7; H, 2.9; N, 4.2. Found: C, 41.4; H, 3.3; N, 3.9%. IR (cm−1): ν(NH) 3055w; ν(Re–O–Re) 691s; ν(Re–N) 540m; ν(Re–O) 509m.
