Abstract
The radical anions of
2,3-dimethylpyrazine and 2,5-di-t-butyl-3-isopropyipyrazine have been prepared
by reducing the parent compound with metallic potassium in 1,2-dimethoxyethane
(dme). The e.s.r. spectra were recorded at various
temperatures and analysed. For 2,3-dimethylpyrazine the analysis yields
information on the structure of the ion pair and the experimental hyperfine splittings give satisfactory agreement with calculated
values. In the case of 2,5-di-t-butyl-3-isopropylpyrazine the e.s.r. analysis leads
to information concerning the stereospecificity of the B proton of the
isopropyl group.
