3. Saur's article is a recent study of sea level at six stations in the eastern North Pacific Ocean. Data on monthly mean sea level from year to year are given corrected for changes in atmospheric pressure. A representative value for standard deviation of sea level at Honolulu for May is 5.2 centimeters as estimated from measurements made over a 53-year period. The standard deviation is greater for winter months and at higher latitudes.
