Abstract
The article discusses the problem of prosodic means of expressing emphasis in French on the basis of polemical discourse. Two types of emphasis are distinguished - local (lexical) and global (supralexical) and the prosodic characteristics of global emphasis are analyzed. It is shown that, unlike the lexical one, the supralexical emphasis is reflected in the prosodic organization of the phrase as a whole. Based on the results of auditory and acoustic analysis of utterances, a classification of tonal contours expressing global emphasis is proposed, and the accent-melodic and dynamic characteristics of the components of the contour structure – the pre-nuclear part and the nuclear tone, which have not yet received coverage in works on the prosody of French speech, are described.
