Electronic only journals in the process of scientific information and communication

Abstract

AbstractThe article deals with the role journals in electronic form play in scientific information and communication. Issues concerning electronic publishing, types of electronic journals and the impact they create, are also presented. On the basis of a defined method ology, a selection of journals, in electronic form only, from the fields of library and information sciences (18 chosen e-journals) and geography (9 chosen e-journals), was made. The two scientific fields were compared. A projection of the future role of libraries in the electronic environment, as well as the future of scientific electronic journals are also presented.
