Design of Lozenge Shaped Monopole Antenna for K-band and Ku-band Applications

Abstract

Abstract With the amelioration and flexibility of communication devices, there is an urge for devices aiding more than one frequency band with enhancement in bandwidth, gain and directivity. This paper proposes a lozenge shaped monopole antenna which envelopes Ku-band and K-band. The proposed antenna possesses a modest structure with modified lozenge shaped radiating patch with triangular and pentagonal shaped slots. In case of simulation the achieved bandwidth for Ku-band frequency range is 0.76 GHz and for K-band frequency range is 6.93 GHz whereas in case of measured results the bandwidth achieved is 0.4 GHz and 0.52 GHz for Ku band and 3.42 GHz in case of K band. The maximum achieved peak directivity is 8.739 dB. The maximal values of achieved peak gain and peak realized gain are 5.757 dB and 5.523 dB respectively. The design is implemented in ANSYS HFSS software.
