Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the effect of panopticon practices in the workplace on the cyberloafing behavior of employees. For this purpose, a quantitative research was conducted. The main body of the research consists of academic and administrative staff working at Bitlis Eren University. Data were obtained by the survey method to be used in the analysis. The collected data were first analyzed in terms of reliability and validity. Then, component structures of the variables were determined by exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses. Regression analysis was performed to test the hypotheses created as a result of the literature review. According to the analysis results; panopticon's tracking information and negative panopticon sub-dimensions were found to have a significant effect on cyberloafing. On the other hand, it was seen that the sub-dimensions of positive panopticon, external responsibility and being watched did not have a significant effect on cyberloafing behavior. According to the research findings; it can be said that employees continue to spend time in the virtual environment even though they have information about surveillance and are uncomfortable with surveillance. It is expected that the research will contribute to the literature and lay the groundwork for quantitative studies on the phenomenon of panopticon.
