Abstract

Industrial revolutions are rapidly transforming the industry and redefining the world of work. Human resource management has also been affected largely by the industrial revolutions. So far, four industrial revolutions have been implemented. Each revolution came with certain positive and negative changes. For example, prior to the 18th century, HR was called personnel management and was limited to hiring, training, and administration. However, with these major revolutions in the industry, HR is now considered a business driver and includes a wide range of strategic activities. Now, discussions are going about the fifth industrial revolution. This chapter aims to elaborate on the changing business scenario, transition from industry 1.0 to 5.0, and its impact on HR. It is expected that the outcomes of the chapter will help the researchers and practitioners in understanding the technicalities and issues involved.
