Abstract
Technology has undoubtedly revamped the food industry into its current glory. The food industry, through a complex network of diverse businesses, has managed to maintain its momentum and massive domination over other industries by adapting and modifying technology to pique the interests of its customers. The object of the chapter is trace the impact of various technologies on the food industry including the internet, social media, and the recently adopted technologies namely Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR). The current chapter aims to equip the targeted audience with global food and food service trends, challenges, and continued innovation due to competition. The chapter will further deal with recent technological inventions and new trends and discuss the long-term impact technology will have on the future of the food industry. The chapter will facilitate the learning of trends and innovations in the food industry and provide insight to hoteliers, chefs, entrepreneurs, engineers, software technicians, data analysts, economists, and other learned audiences.
