Abstract

Virtual reality (VR) is an embarking technology in healthcare and acts as a prominent tool to balance patient impairments whereas it has recently been utilized in rehabilitating people with Parkinson's disease (PD). The incidence of degenerative disease like PD increases with life expectancy, which is observed across the world. VR permits the users to be involved in highly individualized and enriched behaviour in complex environments. Distinct postural control and repetitive exercises in diverse conditions can promote stimulus activity in PD patients. VR generates an imaginary world, and the perception is modified by the artificial stimulus creating a conflict in sensory movements, which alters the reflex in vestibulo-ocular. VR games and other rehabilitation activities improve the standard of living of the PD patient, which shows prominence in healthcare over traditional tools. The main intent of this chapter is to discuss the impact and significance of VR in Parkinson's disease (PD), rehabilitation games, telerehabilitation, and Wii Fit training with VR.
