Abstract
Worldwide there are efforts at different levels to bring in equity and inclusion in the higher education system. In India, the government has very recently approved the new education policy that aims at holistic education starting from kindergarten to the highest degree. Although the policy promotes and encourages many strong ideas towards this, considering the learner diversity particularly in the Indian higher educational system, in order for the learners to realize the opportunity for equity and inclusion, it is necessary to devise methods and means to create, maintain, and grow learner motivation as the learner goes through the degree programme. This chapter proposes a three-pronged approach consisting of a semester-long customized learner induction programme, the role of faculty mentors in creating and sustaining the learner motivation, and bringing in equity and inclusion through lecture delivery. The role of technology in supporting and making these initiatives effective is also discussed with appropriate case studies.
