Enhancing Policy Evaluation

Abstract

This chapter examines the significance of qualitative methodologies in evaluating self-employment policies. The central question is how qualitative approaches enhance policy evaluation in self-employment. The chapter highlights the importance of qualitative studies, such as the biographical approach and life narratives, in offering interpretative perspectives that enrich policy assessments and inform evidence-based decision-making. Qualitative methodologies play a crucial role in providing detailed contextual insights, uncovering complexities, and understanding programmatic effects. By examining contextual influences, implementation strategies, and individual characteristics, qualitative studies help to develop comprehensive theories of change, leading to more responsive and adaptable policies.
