Recent Advancements and Performance Evaluation of Titanium Dioxide-Based Solar Cells

Abstract

Energy is the most fundamental need in every field for the development of mankind. Now a days, solar cell/photovoltaic (PV) technology is dominated by silicon. Many researchers take great interest in identification of alternative materials to silicon because of the downside associated with silicon-based solar cell technology is that its manufacturing requires costly ultra-high-purity silicon and this process of manufacturing of solar cell results in significant carbon emission. In such context, this present review deals with basic to the recent advances made in solar cell and TiO2 based hybrid high efficiency third generation solar cells architecture. It is observed that polymer/titanium dioxide/carbon materials-based dye sensitized solar cells have attracted much attention due to the synergetic effects between the components which shows better electrical properties. Further, the improvement in the electrical properties in hybrid materials is attributed to the direct interfacial interaction.
