Abstract

This study examines the influence of sustainable voluntourism on community development and empowerment. Findings indicate positive impacts but highlight areas needing improvement. Future initiatives should prioritize genuine cultural exchange, local stakeholder collaboration, and robust job creation linked with local entrepreneurship. Environmental sustainability must be enforced through stringent standards. A key to success is building local capacity for self-sufficiency via leadership development and knowledge transfer. Moving beyond service delivery to an empowerment-based approach is essential for holistic development and respecting local autonomy. This reimagined voluntourism can significantly enhance economic, socio-cultural, environmental, and human capital outcomes.
