Abstract
The fast development of new technologies and the investment in new infrastructure to modernize the grid are gradually replacing conventional power systems with renewable energy sources (RES). These changes introduce important challenges concerning the stability of the power plants. As industries and governments focus on sustainability and reducing carbon emissions CO2, the shift towards renewables like solar, wind, and hydro energy is accelerating. This transition requires careful planning and adaptation of the power grid to ensure that it remains stable and robust, despite the inherently variable nature of renewable energy sources. This chapter focuses on the modal analysis and eigenvalue techniques for studies' dynamic of electrical systems by analyzing the eigenvalues and the eigenvectors of the system matrix and determining the margin of stability, the damping ratio, the natural frequency, and the form of the system mode, as well as their evolution according to different scenarios. This can help assess the potential risks of instability in the system.
