Abstract
The first aim in agriculture has always been to maximize the production and minimize the cost of cultivation without disturbing the environment as well as services it provides to the society. Different types of hazardous chemicals are being used in order to increase farm yield due to which agricultural challenges are also increasing day by day, and they ultimately result in health and environmental problems. Therefore, we need a better and holistic approach towards sustainable development (i.e. organic farming). It is a farming system that avoids the use of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, thereby minimizing their deleterious effect on human and animal health and natural resources. According to the global organic organization (IFOAM), four main principles, namely the principles of health, ecology, fairness, and care, are the roots from which organic agriculture grows and develops. Thus, this chapter will be an attempt to explain the significance of organic farming that will provide not only health benefits but also environmental benefits.
