Abstract
Agriculture is one particular sector that is prone to different problems. In India the situation of farmers is even worse. They face a lot of issues ranging from inadequate rainfall, temperature-related issues, crop diseases, animal issues, etc. It is quite a complex job for a farmer to analyze and ascertain climatic, soil, and other vital conditions for the growth of the crop every day. Also, for a farmer to predict the oncoming rainfall and its pattern and to judge suitable soil and ambient environment for crop growth requires historical records of the crop growth data of that particular region of cultivation. This chapter addresses the issues in handling big data related to agri-sector issues. Finally, a prototype model for collecting information from the IoT devices that will be placed in fields to alert the farmers about plant disease infection risk is presented.
