Work done on a bouncing ball

Abstract

Abstract The force acting at the bottom of a vertically bouncing ball does no work on the ball since the bottom of the ball remains at rest. However, it is the total work that is zero. Work is done to change the kinetic energy of the ball, and an equal and opposite amount of work is done to change the elastic energy stored in the ball.
