Flotation Separation of Zn2+, Mg2+, Fe2+, Ni2+ and Hg2+ using KNO3-PAN-Ethanol System

Abstract

Abstract The flotation separations of Zn2+-Mn2+, Zn2+-Fe2+, Zn2+-Ni2+ and Zn2+-Hg2+ have been studied. The separation conditions of Zn2+ with Mg2+, Fe2+, Ni2+ and Hg2+ using KNO3-PAN-ethanol system are discussed. The results show that in the presence of 1.0 g KNO3, when the dosage of PAN ethanol solution and pH 8.5 NH3-NH4Cl buffer solution both are 2.00 mL, the chelate settlement of Zn-PAN which form from the system is flotated to the ethanol-phase. Zn2+ is flotated quantitatively. While Mg2+, Fe2+, Ni2+ and Hg2+ can not be flotated. The quantitative separations of Zn2+-Mn2+, Zn2+-Fe2+, Zn2+-Ni2+ and Zn2+-Hg2+ are achieved, and the results are satisfactory.
