Abstract

AbstractLaterally loaded piles are generally used where high lateral load acts on the structures. Vertical piles along with batter piles are used in structures such as chimneys, towers, dock and harbor structures, and high-rise buildings. Various techniques have been used in literature to solve the laterally loaded pile problems. Among themp-ymethod is preferred over all other methods. Various researchers have provided analytical solutions for vertical and batter pile problems and are discussed in this paper. Experimental investigations were also carried out by various researchers on vertical and batter piles, indicating that the negative batter piles offer large resistance to lateral loads when compared with the vertical piles. The deflection values obtained from the analytical solutions were also compared with the model tests and were found to be in a good agreement. Numerical modeling conducted by various researchers on vertical and batter pile foundation by various researchers is also discussed in this paper.
