Abstract
Abstract
Informal settlements, commonly referred as kampungs, serve as integral components within the urban landscape of numerous cities. However, these settlements have significant vulnerabilities in relation to various urban difficulties, including but not limited to modernization, urbanisation, and other catastrophic circumstances. Nevertheless, there is a limited amount of study that specifically addresses spatial and physical concerns in the region of South Sumatra. This study seeks to examine the configuration and visibility of changes in Kampung Tuan Kentang, located in South Sumatera, Palembang, using the framework of space theory. The objective of this study is to restructure the spatial organisation of urban kampungs by means of enhancing connectedness and integration. The primary objective of this research is to address the physical and geographical challenges faced by Kampung Tuan Kentang, with the aim of enhancing the overall spatial quality and creating a more favourable environment. The current state of the structural network pattern in Kampung Tuan Kentang has characteristics of both a linear pattern and an organic spatial pattern, which are commonly observed in vernacular traditional settlements. The utilization of computational analysis is anticipated to function as a valuable resource for designers, urban designers, and urban planners in the evaluation of decision-making during the design phase. Additionally, it aids in identifying kampung areas that require future attention.
