Abstract
The oil used in transformers is still using mineral oil, even though mineral oil derived from petroleum will be exhausted, non-renewable, non-degradable, toxic, not environmentally friendly. In this study, researchers used macadamia oil to determine the breakdown voltage value. This oil is oil derived from plants, its existence will always exist, can be renewed, can be decomposed again, non-toxic, and environmentally friendly. The value of the breakdown voltage, is the voltage limit that makes the transformer components submerged in oil connected, the oil no longer functions as an insulator. the test was carried out using an OTS 100 AF device with an electrode distance of 2.5 mm using a mushroom electrode referring to the IEC standard. The test is carried out at a temperature of 50 °C – 60 °C where this temperature is the temperature when the transformer operates. from the test results obtained a value of 57.60 kV, where this value has exceeded the standard and can be used at a network voltage of 170 kV.
