Redescription of the North Atlantic and Mediterranean Species ofNatatolana(Crustacea: Isopoda: Cirolanidae)

Abstract

The taxonomy of six species and one subspecies ofNatatolana, which have previously been recorded from the north Atlantic Ocean and Mediterranean Sea, is reviewed.Natatolana caeca, N. gallica, N. gracilisandN. neglectaare redescribed from the type material. The location of possible type material ofN. borealisis reported and a redescription of this species is provided, based on material from the type locality.Natatolana neglectavar.imicolais recognized as a valid species.Natatolana schtnidtiis regarded as a junior synonym ofN. imicolabased on comparison of type material and this material is used to redescribe the species. Distribution records for these species are summarized from examination of material held in various collections and a key to separate these species is provided.
