Abstract
Mucilage was detectable on the seeds of 8% of 233 plant species collected in Nevada and adjacent California. Mucilaginous species were restricted to the Cruciferae, Euphorbiaceae, Labiatae, Onograceae, and Plantaginaceae. Many of the species with mucilaginous seed coats are weeds. Mucilage may influence seed dispersal and greatly influences moisture relations during germination.
