On the taxonomy of the genus Thysanoptyx Hampson with descriptions of two new genera and a new species from Vietnam (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Arctiinae: Lithosiini)

Abstract

Two new footman moth genera, Thysanoplisna gen. n. and Collitoptyx gen. n. are described for two species-groups previously included in the genus Thysanoptyx Hampson, 1894 (the ‘T.’ brevimacula (Alphéraky, 1897) and ‘T.’ incurvata Wileman & West, 1928 species-groups, respectively). A new species, Thysanoplisna zofera sp. n. is described from Northern Vietnam. Six new combinations are introduced: Thysanoplisna brevimacula (Alphéraky, 1897), comb. n., Thysanoplisna signata (Walker, 1854), comb. n., Thysanoplisna anomala (Volynkin, 2021), comb. n., Collitoptyx incurvata (Wileman & West, 1928), comb. n., Collitoptyx manganensis (N. Singh & Joshi, 2017), comb. n., and Collitoptyx sordida (Butler, 1881), comb. n. The genus Thysanoptyx is characterised, and a check-list of the taxa included is provided. Adults, as well as male and female genitalia of the new and similar taxa are illustrated.
