Abstract

Welding ceramic fluxes have several advantages over fused ones, for example, the possibility of alloying the weld metal by adding alloying additives, the second advantage is the environmental friendliness of the flux production, all components are heat treated without melting. Ceramic welding flux in most cases consists of two parts: the slag phase and alloying additives. The article presents the results of experimental work on studying the influence of ceramic welding flux on the properties of weld metal. The physical meaning of the slag phase of ceramic welding fluxes is demonstrated. The main characteristics of ceramic welding fluxes are given, it is shown, how the basicity of the slag phase of the flux affects the melting point and, together with it, the welding process. Depending on the basicity of the welding flux slag, the welding stroke can be adjusted. The physical, chemical and electrochemical parameters of a welding bath are similar to those of a steelmaking bath, but the fundamental difference is the reaction rate. To date, the effect of ceramic welding fluxes has not been fully studied. A sufficient number of factors can affect the final properties of the seam metal, in particular: chemical composition of the flux; chemical composition of the wire and base metal; the amount of alloying additives in the flux; welding modes (affect the degree of assimilation of alloying components); type of cutting of the welded product. The article also presents the results of electron microscopy of slag crusts of molten welding flux. According to the results of electron microscopy, it was possible to capture the process of oxidation and subsequent reduction of zirconium, zirconium is one of the main auxiliary elements contributing to a favorable effect on the properties of the seam metal, but at the same time, zirconium was not detected during chemical analysis of the seam metal.
