Abstract
This study examines the differences in locomotor abilities of children aged 5-6 years in two locations, namely coastal and mountainous areas in Kebumen City, Indonesia. Locomotor skills in children are fundamental to master because they will continue to be a part of everyday life and the future, such as games, physical activities, and sports. This is important because children's locomotor results are still not good and there is no identification of locomotor abilities seeing from previous studies that only examine manipulative movement abilities. Using descriptive research methods, the population was 40 schools, especially for coastal and mountainous areas, then sampling was carried out with 2 stages, namely using cluster random sampling techniques and then purposive sampling. The number of samples is 130 with details of 65 children in coastal areas and 65 children in mountainous areas instruments and test instructions using the Test of Gross Motor Development-2. The results showed that the average index of children's locomotor abilities in both locations had a difference, so it could be concluded that there were differences in children's locomotor abilities, coastal children were better than mountain children.
