Abstract
The UV spectrum of dicobaltoctacarbonyl in a solution of n-heptane was reinvestigated under variing conditions of concentration, CO-pressure and temperature. From the influence of the temperature on the spectral change and from the comparison with the spectrum of the hydridocobalttetracarbonyl an attempt was made to correlate the absorption bands to the corresponding electron transfers. A qualitative term scheme is proposed. Furthermore, the photochemical formation of tetracobaltdodecarbonyl at room temperature and its delayed formation under gamma-rays is reported.
