Syntheses of Spin-Labeled Phosphorus Compounds

Abstract

Synthesis of the following classes of spin-labeled phosphorus compounds are described. where R and R’ are either alkyl, cycloalkyl, glucosyl or phenyl, and Ṙ is the nitroxyl moiety. The epr of these compounds can be used as a tool for determining the number of nitroxyl moieties attached to the phosphorus atom, since all monoradicals have threeline spectra with aN 14.7-16.0G, all diradicals have five-line spectra with aN 7.5-8.3G, and all triradicals have seven-line spectra with aN 4.5-5.0 G. All of these compounds are well defined oils or solids, and can serve as model systems for the preparation of spin-labeled phosphorus compounds of biological interest.
