Abstract

η3-Phosphinoketene complexes of tungsten Cp(CO)ClW [η3-P(Ph2)-C(R)=C=O] (R=Me, Ph) react with hydrogen chloride under protonation of the ketene oxygen atom converting the ketene into a new cyclobutenol system. The products have been characterized by 1H, 13C, 31P NMR. IR and mass spectra. 1-Carbonyl-1,1-dichloro-1-(η5-cyclopentadienyl)-2,2-di-phenyl-3-methyl-1-wolframa-2-phospha-3-buten-4-ol crystallized in the monoclinic space group P21/n with a = 9.046(2), b = 7.369(1), c = 30.266(2) Å, β = 96.63(3)° and Z = 4.
