The mass spectra of CH4, C2H6, C3H8 and C2H4 produced by bombardment with a-particles and electrons show near agreement. This is approximately in accordance with the theoretical expectations. In contrast to the observations made by Melton and Rudolph, no essential stabilization by collision of excited ions was established
