Backscattering of 20 MeV electrons from lead is simulated by a Monte Carlo code for varied angles of incidence. For glancing incidence, the most probable exit angle approaches the reflection angle, and the most probable energy approaches the initial energy. The underlying mechanism is derived from the calculations. Beam collimators for electron therapy may be improved by consideration of this effect.
