Abstract
More than 30 new unsymmetric disubstituted, enantiotropic nematic azobenzenes are described. In contrast to the high melting symmetric disubstituted liquid crystalline azobenzenes they partly have melting points only a little bit higher than room-temperature and nematic ranges of up to 34 °C. They represent an interesting new class of nematic liquid crystals.
