Abstract
The absorption coefficient of LYMAN α in a hydrogen-argon plasma with an electron density of 8.4·10116 cm—3 and a temperature of 12 200 °K has been measured in the region between 1 and 20 A from the center of the line and has been compared with existing theories. Measurements of the asymmetry of the line profile, probably caused by higher-order STARK effects, are also given.
