Abstract
The 13C and 119Sn NMR spectra were examined for two series of vinyltin(IV) compounds involving the Sn-S bond, of general formulas (CH2=CH)nSn(SR)4 - n (n = 0 - 4) and (CH2=CH)nSn(Cl)(SR)3 - n (n = 0 - 3) where R = 1-C4H9, C(S)N(C2H5)2 or 8-quinolinyl C9H6N, or SR = 1/2 (SCH2CH2S). Deuteriochloroform and hexadeuteriodimethyl sulfoxide served as non-coordinating and coordinating solvents, respectively. The 13C and 119Sn NMR data provided a basis for discussion of the nature and strength of the Sn-S bonding, coordination of the central tin atom including the shape of the coordination polyhedron, and the ability of the compounds to form donor acceptor complexes.
