Abstract

In modern times, implants have been used for over 50 years as a treatment of missing teeth. From past to present, there has been a cumulative progress with regards to design and application techniques. While the use of the longest possible implant was preferred in the past; thanks to more complex bone augmentation methods, short implants have been started to be preferred in case of the vertical bone deficiency. The systemic conditions of the patients might not always be suitable for additional augmentation methods. Nevertheless, applications of short implants have several advantages such as low cost, ease of implementation and length of treatment period. In this review,the indications and usage areas of short implnats are described in the light of current literature.
