Abstract
The objective of this project is to increase understanding among aspiring leaders and scholars of leadership development of ways to ground dimensions of spiritual intelligence in leadership contexts. To do so, we illuminate a historical, organizational foundation for Emmons' (1999)
framework of core components of spiritual intelligence, and then translate Emmons' components into a conceptual framework of leadership competencies. The foundation that we employ derives from integrative and dynamic perspectives, partly comprised of linear patterns of human and organizational
evolution, and partly of interdependent relationships that position spiritual potential amid physical, emotional, and mental potentialities. Together these perspectives offer supportive context for framing spiritual intelligence in organizationally relevant ways. The resultant framework refines
connections between organizations and spiritual intelligence, and provides catalysts for further discussion and study of the contributions that spirituality is beginning to make to leadership and leadership education.
