4. Here we are considering, for instance, an electron hoping from a polaron with charge + e (hence with one localized electron) to a “dipolaron” with charge + 2e (hence with no localized electrons). This process differs from normal polaron hopping in that the lattice distortions have an integrity independent of occupancy. Both polarons exist before and after the electronic transition
