In addition, the study also showed equivalent outcomes between open and robotic surgery for complex cases with respect to improvement of hydronephrosis after surgery for obstruction, complications, and clinical success after discontinuation of antibiotic prophylaxis.

This study found that scars from open pyeloplasty are significantly larger after follow-up than robotic or laparoscopic pyeloplasty total incision length. Open pyeloplasty scars were also more commonly associated with hyperesthesia compared to other methods.
