Kroenke and collegues conducted one of the first longitudial studies on the relaitonship between pain and depression. They analyzed a subset of 500 chronic pain patients from the Stepped Care for Affective disorders and Musculoskeltal Pain (SCAMP) study and followed patients with and without depression over 12 month. This study provided further suport for a bidirectional and possibly causal assocation between pain and depression.
