Bragg was Cavendish Professor of Physics at the University of Leeds, W.L. Bragg had finished his BA and was at Trinity College, Cambridge. The diamonds used in the study were lent to the Braggs by the Mineralogical Laboratory at Cambridge. They used the recently developed technique of X-ray diffraction to solve the crystal structure.
