Abstract
IN BRIEF
The Structured Testing Program (STeP) study used structured self-monitoring of blood glucose (SMBG) as a component of a collaborative intervention. Study results showed significant clinical, behavioral, and quality-of-life benefits from the intervention. This article discusses some of the key lessons learned from the STeP study and presents a practical approach to incorporating and utilizing structured SMBG in primary care.
